That's just it, man. We don't know. This is the main difference between a scientist and a creationist:
Scientist simply state that they do not know, explain what they understand, point to what's being done to figure out more, tells you what evidence they've found and what it implies, and encourage you to help continue the quest for knowledge.
Creationist explain away what they don't know just by labelling it "God's work". They some how give whimsical explanations for the existance of all things by suggesting everything was created with us in mind. It's easier and paints a rosier picture.
I'm not afraid of not having the answers. I'm not gonna going to except accept some book written by 1.5k+ years ago, with no evidence, as the truth because it gives me the warm fuzzies; because it tells me there's a special place for me when I die if I do things right. The fact that I don't know how everything works doesn't harm me or anyone else. Telling myself lies and spreading misinformation to others, I have a problem with that.
