Where did Nintendo say that? All I read in the thread's OP is that they are able to port the game to the "New 3DS" with "improved graphics and controls" because of the extra CPU power, which means (in terms of a business) fewer costs, and therefore it is reasonable to port it to the "New 3DS." The question isn't whether or not the original 3DS can run the game at playable levels (it can), the question is how much would it have costed them to port the game to run at playable levels on an equivalent system (in terms of raw power) with a different architecture (the code was developed with the Wii hardware in mind.) It might've been too much in their eyes, and that is why they needed the extra cpu cycles, just so they could make a cheaper port. However, I think this vastly reduces their consumer-base for the game ( and others.) Xenoblade has a lot of potential in terms of sales, but Nintendo keeps giving it the shaft, first by limiting supply in NA and EU for the Wii game, and now by putting it solely on a console SKU most people don't want to upgrade to, but many people who haven't (and have) would love to play the game. The game should've just been bundled with Xenoblade X or rereleased on the Wii U for $40. It would've made more sense profit-wise, so the only thing this tells me is that this (and other games) are meant for people to buy the new SKU, which is just a blatant and annoying abuse of Nintendo's brand image in my opinion.
