The Halo series has been in a steady decline. Halo is not dead but this a new generation. It's not the new IP anymore. Halo MCC is just a bunch of games people have already played. The hardcore will buy but the casual gamer is not going to invest all of their time MCC with all the shooters already out. Halo and Gears is getting a little old. It's going to be like COD at this rate. |
It's quite sad really how much faith fanboys put in a single franchise. I actually know someone who will buy (and actually probably has already bought), and Xbox One and his reason will be, "because Halo...". It's depressing really because he just comes across like a brainwashed psycho. Don't get me wrong, being a fan of something is fine, but he practically worships Halo; he even named his dog Coltana.
I'd understand if it was an especially deep series but it's not. It's a by the book sci-fi FPS that's honestly no different than Killzone and a lot less impressive than Bioshock. The story isn't anything special, in fact if anything it's cliché, and the character of Master Chief is boring. Now sure, people play it for the multiplayer, but even then it's multiplayer is as standard as you can get and really seems no different with each new game. Halo 2 and Halo 3 felt identical in multiplayer to me, and not all that different from basically every multiplayer FPS out there. Why is this the must have game? I really don't get it.
