I know what Ultima is. Ask any random on the street what Ultima is, though. Now ask them what Zelda is. I'd put money on you not finding anyone who knows what Ultima is, but never heard of Zelda. Mainstream. Zelda is mainstream. Pac Man, Mario, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty. Those are mainstream. Ultima never was any of that. It's no excuse. It's no Nintendo thing. It's fact. Zelda made open world games a 'thing' in a way Ultima never did and never could have. That's no slant on it's quality. It's a slant on it's prominence and therefore it's influence. It's like when people say Nintendo created the dpad or the analog stick. They didn't. Who cares though? They made it the standard.
