They really aren't necessary for the games like Skylanders or Infinity figures are. Plus with a new wave of Skylanders coming in October, it's going to really eat into the demand for these, plus older Skylanders are cheap now and you can get into the games without spending a lot of money. These seem really expensive and don't add much to the games. Plus if you don't own a Wii U than there will be a $300 plus $60 game on top of the figures, not a lot of people are going to throw 400-500 for a cheap Skylanders ripoff experience that don't already have the console. These are not going to be big, profitable I'm sure since they are cheap plastic figures, but not anything special. Pokemon might, but like someone else said, it would have been much bigger 5-10 years ago, not now.
