Halo 4, which came out in 2012, just 2 years ago, and arguably the most poorly received in the series is closing in on 10 million sales, including digital copies. That shows you the strength of the franchise and its popularity is still going strong. |
Halo 4 may have sold a lot of copies, but the reception for it has been awful, & the online community/multiplayer for it has been greatly damaged as a whole by 343i.

People are now going to be cautious about Halo 5 before dropping 400 bones w/tax for the console, $60 w/tax for the game itself, & $60 for online multiplayer just to play it. And a lot of people aren't going to buy a Xbox One for 4 Halo games that most people have already played to death by now.
The Halo franchise is no longer as popular like it used to be; as it's been taking over by other shooters like Destiny, Call of Duty, & Battlefield.
