Nintendo does not need to build an audience. Did Microsoft or Sony build one when they first come out? No they provided a platform and money hatted for exclusives from 3rd parties to attract the audience. One company cannot do it all by themselves and why should they when you can use money to do it for you? What is the point of expanding your comany to an uncontrolable size just to cover every genre out there to "establish it". The culture of the company would also change probably for the worst as you get the mature guys vs the everyone entertainment guys infighting.

They aren't doing anything by themselves. Making exclusive games isn't the same as speading yourself too thin. If Sony and Microsoft can do it, Nintendo definitely can. And they need to. Sony and Microsoft didn't have an established audience period. They had to moneyhat to literally exist. You think they need to moneyhat anymore to get 3rd parties? They don't and if they never had a single exclusive 3rd party game again, they'd still have the exact same third party support. You think that if Sony decided to anounce tomorrow that they'd only make Sly Cooper, Little Big Planet, and Ratchet & Clank the rest of the generation, that 3rd party m rated games would still be stupported by them? They wouldn't, because they'd be abandoning the audience that buys those games.
And seriously, what genres do Sony and Microsoft NOT have a signifigant exclusive for? And to those genres, how many other games in that genre come to or sell well on that system?
