Well if they knew of it before the next question would be why they didn't act upon it earlier.

Maybe it's because great new games aren't made in a month and actually need time to be developed?

Nintendo did admit that they struggled with developing for HD tech and it wasn't until towards the end of last year that they felt completely comfortable in that environment. They also had to deal with the fact that no one wanted to buy third party offerings (often gimped versions of big sellers) that would have filled in the gaps between Nintendo's own releases. Which meant third parties ditched the Wii U making the drought worse.
