Alright, that's what I thought (couldn't see any rules against it) but decided it's best to check.
Anyway I protected padib. He had admitted what his role, which worked, was which pretty much guaranteed he was town and as we couldn't be sure how many factions there were, what powers people had etc. I thought he could be a target. Hence I protected him.
