At first I was like "check"book? Then I looked at the link and saw "cheque"book and now I'm like, why did OP change the spelling? But that is a cute term though, chequebook warfare. That really didn't work out enough to help them not come third last gen, but with last gens leader slipping up, chequbook warfare might help them edge out a small second place victory this gen.

Sorry about the spelling change, but here in AMerrrriCA we spell cheque as check. Just some subconcious spell correction lol.

I have always looked down on this practice. The industry was stable until this conecpt was introduced to it and I can argue it is this practice(and a few others) that are really causing it all to spiral. It only fixes things short term and has a less profound effect each successive time you do it. Buying off 3rd party owned games is a poor move because as Sony learned during PS3's span.........3rd Parties will stab you in the back. I imagine it costs MS 3x as much money to moneyhat any given 3rd party exclusive as it would have 8 years ago.

You also now have companies like SquareEnix who constantly have their hand out, trying to hold games ransom for things that should have came naturally (SE extorted Nintendo for Bravely Default, tried to extort money from MS for FFXIV but they didn't bite, and Sony continues to refuse to pay them for exclusivity of FF series).
