You do realize that the worst thing any of these companies can do is "lie" about their numbers. Maybe that could fly back in 1992 when there weren't really official ways to track sales and companies just talked about shipped numbers as sold numbers. But today, all that need to casue a PR shit storm is for MS or nintendo to just come out and say "errrr, sony is lying about their NPD numbers".
Oh, and while NA is the largest "single" market, its still just one market. The EU is the largest territory now. And so far its safe to say that whoever wins the EU, comes first or second in NA; wins the generation.
