VGChartz has 100% accurate information for a small number of stores and then extrapolates that to the whole population, make some adjusments based on sample bias. No it isn't 100% anymore, but it does have a solid start point and is an approximate estimation based on that. Other trackers such as NPD do the exact same thing, they are only more reliable because they start with a much larger sample.


I think NPD gets data from like 48 % of all US retailers.

From what I hear it's more like 90%.
