I feel similarly. I have enjoyed Xbox press conference better for the most part and i think Sony is diluting itself too much with the indies. They took up the majority of their conference.

This is the result of the previous gen have beeing rushed out. Major publishers have disappeared and the game output of the remaining ones just isnt enough. Microsoft seemed to solve that problem with paying for third party exclusivity, wich is a perfectly acceptable strategy (many forget Sony did the exact same thing to SEGA with the PS1. I guess the internet wasnt such a big factor back then). Companies have their strengths and weaknesses, and i just dont understand what the problem is when Microsoft uses one of its strengths to get a competitive advantage.
With that said, the market is a different place from the PS1 era and all third party projects lost to exclusivity mean a dryer gaming landscape. Indies quite honestly dont fill the void. Sony is visibly trying to rush these indies into beeing the new publishers of tomorrow, but its not gonna happen easily. There are some indie games that are making it to the next level, but aside from no man's sky nothing i would put on retail level.

So, in conclusion, this new generation is reaping the (rotten) seeds planted in the rushed previous gen. Despite all the flak, Nintendo was the only company going at a steadier and more sustainable pace for the market and ended up shunned by it. I dont predict things will get any better. I expect the rift between companies and gamers will continue to grow and the market will contract as more gamers lose interest and more companies vie for the cheap mobile games instead of the riskier productions. Unlike other markets the videogames market vies of variable software availability. The reduction of the software variety in offer sends the market not to maturity, but to decline, as consumer look to fulfill their entertainment needs on other markets like movies and TV series that offer bigger variety.

Not to be all gloom, i think the problem can be averted if first parties pick up the slack and expand their studios. That might be why people got so pissed off with the TR thing.
