Edit: Jokes aside, this is poor reasoning. As others have already noted, development times and expense are simply very long, and Sony haven't managed that particularly well up until this point. Additionally, the console has been selling brilliantly without much of a library behind it. This has no doubt created a massive disincentive for additional investment in games for Sony. Which, of course, is the value of competition from Nintendo and Microsoft. |

Development time is actually faster now. Mark Cerny talked extensively about the "time to triangle" approach they took when making PS4. He wanted to make sure he expedited the time it took for developers to get a game running exponetially. And succeeded. Gaming is easier to develop for now than it's ever been.
