Nintendo isn't the reason for the old Wii/DS games getting shut down. The GameSpy buyout was. Wii games that use alternate servers still run to this day (GE 007 and 3 COD games come to mind). Anyways, this looks more like a move to get people to buy 14 rather than trimming off dead weight.
