Yep, the image is supposed to be for the a festival in Japan, where it is customary to wear masks, so it isn't that surprising that LInk is wearing a Kimono.

Well Greezo was recently hiring and asking if people wanted to do a legend with them, so the remake should be coming up soon, probably Spring or Summer 2015.

They are for both sexes, though they are majorly used by women. The major differrence between both are how many parts it has, and the fabric and colors that are used, since male kimonos usually go for darker colors, as it is in LInk's case.
