As breedinbull says, it's money. Microsoft chose to fund the game and thats why it is exclusive. Money..Money....MONEY!

If they wanted to retain the IP and keep their indie status, they could've done what almost every other indie dev has done and self fund/self publish or find funding elsewhere, but microsoft paid, the end.

What if Sony had an exclusive 3rd party game on PS4, and they stated the reason as " Sony had our best interest with the Ip at heart; they allowed us freedom with the IP." I guess that reason would also be BS, as it's all "money". 

while I think money had influence I doubt it was the only reason. 

If Sony was publishing this supposed 3rd party game...then it would be exclusive by virture of Sony publishing it. However, on the flip side, Sony would own that IP (apparently that's just a rule they have in place, with no flexibility). So, there would be no "freedom with the IP"  or "best interest with the IP". It'd be exclusive becuase....money. And because Sony (and only Sony) would want to determine where the IP goes in the future.

Insomniac can do whatever they want with a Sunset Overdrive 2.

Kinda apples to oranges comparison, I think.

But, for the record, I don't agree with fireburn. He said "they could have got funding else where...but MS paid. The end". Why not MS? If Activision published it, the Acti paid. If Ubisoft published it, then Ubi paid. Whoever would publish this game paid for it. I don't get how that is a supportive argument in this scenario. But I have speculations as to why Microsoft stepped up to publish it before anyone else did (see my prior post)
