im saying people will see Mario and buy it for 5 dollars cause its mario and they already have a phone. They do the same for Sonic and others. Their is no "smart" or "dumb" in that decision.

It's not as simple as you imply

Charging $5 or even $1 for a game in the mobile makert isn't a wise decision especially when there are thousands upon thousands of other games that essentially advertise being free.

Why do you think so many devs opt for the f2p model?

Adapting their older games to the f2p isn't as easy as it may seem as well.

Then there is issue of discoverability and profitability.

Not to mention they are essentially diluting their brand and eating away into their own handheld business.

The mobile market is nothing but an opportunity to make a quick buck, for a company like Nintendo there is no opportunity for growth - they should focus on stengthening their core business and divesifying with other longterm ventures (like QOL)

naw you're making it more complicated than it is. By that logic there would be NO priced games on mobile and we know thats not the case. Plenty of non free games out there and people do buy them. Dont see why they wouldnt buy Ninty's stuff.

And the differences in revenue from priced to f2p games is HUGE. Investors would be mad if it weren't f2p.

I'm not sure why, that with pretty much everyone here disagreeing with you, you're so sure that mobile VC would be a great idea for Nintendo. It could very well happen like this:

1. Nintendo puts retro Mario on iOS/Android for free (profits from ad revenue). Revenue spike, then fall.

2. Investors pressure nintendo to release more games on smartphones.

3. The few casual who still buy nintendo hardware and software (mostly 3ds) stop buying. After all, mommy can always say "you already have Mario on your phone" whenever a kid asks for a new device to play the new games. The price difference is just too big.

4. Shareholders point to fledgling profits in the console division and push for it to be closed in favor of developing new games for mobile platforms. If the CEO is opposed to such a move, they'll elect one who isn't.

they could disagree all they want. They arent anymore right or wrong than i am since none of them are actual investors so none of us know what really goes on behind close doors.

Revenue could spike and then fall, sure but how far will it fall? it surely will be doing better than what the are doing now.

Ninty doesnt have to give in to the pressure. Its called compromise

They'll still buy because little Timmy is still going to want the latest tech and games. By that logic no one would have gotten GTA 5 since they can get 3 on their phone

again compromise
