It goes back to what I said a lot last gen - that while Microsoft definitely put up their best efforts, they were up against an incompetent, arrogant Sony. When both brands launch at the same time with competitive prices and/or game plans, the PlayStation will probably always be ahead, thanks to its worldwide brand name, which is bigger than any gaming brand. The US/UK/JP are the only real battlegrounds for PS vs Xbox and PS vs Nintendo. |
Microsoft put up their best efforts during the 1st half of last gen. During the 2nd half of last gen, they did a paltry job and it ended up knocking the 360 to third place. It also set a precedent to this gen. MS transitioned to this gen as a company that relied all too much on Halo, Forza, Gears, and Fable. The X1 announcement was the nail and hammer on the coffin for many consumers. It was an epitome of a "things can't get much worse and then, it does" situation.
