It was basically explained back when I told you why backwards compatibility was an issue for the PS4 due to it being x86 and the PS3 being PPC as the games for PS3 were designed with PPC in mind.

Not just PPC. The Cell was its own mess all together to optimize for. xD

Coding for the PS3 in general has been a well documented mess.
