azrm, the PS2 dropped to $200 within months of the GC's release and had a huge lead before the GC was even released. Totally different situation, even if you are correct that price isn't the only factor. That aside, the PS3 would be doing a lot better at $300, and we probably wouldn't be having this same conversation every week.
Also, despite what some think, games like MGS4 and FFXIII are going to give permanent boosts to the sales of the PS3. FFX ended up selling as many or more copies lifetime than there were PS2s at its launch iirc, and it helped to push an additional 500k to 1mil units in Japan alone before the start of the holiday season the year of its release, while there were only a handful of other games of the same calibur to back that up.
The PS3 is hurting now, obviously. No one is saying otehrwise. What is being said is that it came from the brink of death to be able to compete with the Wii off the back of a "demo," and that says some good things about the system's future once full version games of note start being released on it. I mean, really, if they can sell this many copies of Prologue in Europe, imagine what they will do with the full version of the game. It'll sell many millions, of copies, and tons of hardware to go with it, and it's not going to sell all of that on day one, week one, or even month one. The game will still eb selling a year late, and people looking to buy a new system will take its existance into consideration even if it's not the one game that pushes them over the edge and "forces" them to buy the system.
You do not have the right to never be offended.
