PS2 sold 33% of its total after launch of its successor (it was way less than $200). Even if PS3 only sells 20% of its total post PS4 launch it will still reach 100m. That's a drop off because of the longer gen but once it gets down to $150 there'll be no stopping it. I'm not counting the 12gb as getting down to $200 yet either. They need a price drop of $170 for the 12gb, $200 for the 250gb, and $250 for the 500gb. Holidays still to go this year with some tremendous deals and it gets a good boost. |
There is a chance that Sony will announce a price drop in the near future. Last year, there were reports of the Cell being shrunk from 44 nm to 22 nm (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=535647 ). Should help bring down manufacturing costs enough so that selling the PS3 at $150 or whatever will still net Sony a hardware profit. And yeah, the PS3 has much better endurance than the 360.
OT: PS4 will probably hit 10 million right before or by the end of September. Destiny and the white PS4 bundle will really boost sales when it comes out.
