So Shin Megami Tensei IV is currently on sale for $25 (50% off) in the eShop. Should I take advantage of it and buy it now?

Have you played any other SMT games? SMT IV was my first, and I really enjoyed it, but I have no idea how it compares to other entries. The combat system is pretty challenging at first, but it's fun once you get used to it. You pretty much have to be vigilant every fight, the momentum of battle can shift against you so fast, you can even lose against weaker monsters if you use the wrong move.

Piece of advice though, since I see you have a lot of Pokemon games on your list. I've heard some people call SMT a 'mature Pokemon' before, since the game involves making pacts with demons to increase your party strength, but I think the comparison is pretty terrible. Instead of collecting as many demons as you want, you only have a certain amount of slots to hold demon party members, and you will have to free up slots by fusing the demons together. It's a cool idea, but you also don't really get attached to the demons, since they're constantly transforming into other demons. It's not a bad thing IMO...it's just a far cry from Pokemon.

I suppose there's a feature though, that lets you save your demons for later summoning right before you fuse them...so you can effectively treat that as your PC.

If you don't mind any of that, then yeah. I totally recommend it. The story is amazing. I spent $50 on it, and I had no regrets.

No, I have not played any SMT games before.
