Sometimes it can be a pain in the ass, since every used game I buy has like 2-3 updates waiting and my slow connection doesn't do any favors. Still, it's a necessary evil. I remember nearly 10 years ago, I rented 25 to Life (awful game), and the cutscenes didn't have any audio at all. It was annoying. While games nowadays won't suffer of extreme cases like that, it doesn't hurt to iron out the few glitches that slipped from the developers eyes before release. Also, adding content via updates never hurts anyone. Background downloads on this generation nearly eliminates the issue, so, it's not much of a problem anymore.
