Do you know how huge a blow to the others it would be if the Wii U dropped in price by 100 dollars on black friday? Or just permanently?
They dropped the 3D part of the 3DS and nobody, including gamers batted an eye. Who's to say they wont with the Wii U as well? Especially after this.

Doubt it.
It's more likely that it has been added for support of the gamecube controller as well, plus some people just like using the Wiimote. Plus there is Amiibo which requires the NFC chip in the Gamepad. That would be like them shooting themselves in the foot with a shotgun.
Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.
