I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying. The timed exclusivty is only part of the pie that will help Sony win big with Destiny. The bundle, alone, will ensure that. It won't be close. |
I understand full well what you're saying, and being that the gen has only begun it can only add to what Sony has done, but can you understand my sentiments towards Sony's internal marketing plight? Ok, they'll grow a base for a third party game off of their following but they need a stronger core. Third party has never been Sony's problem. Sony already has the advantage and is outselling MS with major third parties already. I'd rather Sony focus their marketing dollars on their own games that have some admirable quality. They make too many of them not to. It's also not like they are walking into this new gen with the same kind of money they had in the beginning of last gen.
I have to weigh Destiny's ability as a console seller ( I mean Titanfall outhyped it and Titanfall and I am sure it wont outsell Titanfall on the Xbox One). Destiny would make a great holiday bundle, I'll admit that would be a fine catch with a great looking PS4 at that, but its happening and I cannot change that. If it were up to me i'd leave things like that to MS. Sony has the games that they could market on another level, but they don't until its too late. They wait until their IP's have already gone into popularity to bundle them and get people into them. The original Motorstorm sold like hotcakes thanks to bundling but because it wasn't of amazing quality people did not return for more. Sony needs to bundle the more worthy games of their stock like Nintendo did for Super Mario. For the sake of growth in brand perception and alignment with companies it makes sense to me.
