new software update for Wii U was released today, giving owners of Nintendo's current console the ability to transfer their content from one Wii U to another.

The Wii U to Wii U system transfer works similarly to the process utilized by Nintendo on 3DS. Wii U owners must have both consoles up to date with the latest system software (version 5.1.0) and once the transfer from system to system is complete, the source Wii U will have its storage formatted.

Wii U owners will be able to transfer users, Nintendo Network IDs, save data and downloaded content to a new system. Details on the system transfer and step-by-step instructions are available at Nintendo's support website.

The newly released system update for Wii U also adds another welcome feature: the option to navigate the eShop — Nintendo's online store — with Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller or Classic Controller.

Requisite "improvements to system stability and usability" are also included in the new system update.
