Of course you can use rechargable batteries, but they are still an unnecessary additional cost + they waste space + you must have two sets to change between. PS3 comes with an USB cable which you can plug into a console for instant charge.

If you want to do that on XBox you must buy Microsoft's $25 cable.

It's just way too much nickle and diming by MS.

Or just buy a used one for 3-5 bucks on Amazon -__-
