Pokemon isn't stagnating, it is evolving and deepening in a great way.
Changing for the sake of changing and against the will of your fanbase is recipe for failure and disaster. You remind me Microsoft that tried to force people to like Modern UI in Windows 8 and ended up with their biggest failure since Vista and a damaged brand.
