You want spinning?

WD - 8m shipped / 180m consoles (not including pc) = tie ratio 4.4%

MK8 - 2m+ sold / 6.6m consoles = tie ratio 30%

Leaving out some crucial information in your analysis is definitely 'spinning'.

Sales so not scale proportional to install base. If the Wii U had sold 66 million consoles at this point in time Mario Kart 8 would not have sold 20million units by now. Ignoring the fact that Mario Kart is a recognised franchise thats been building momentum for over 20 years is incredibly silly.

MK wii sold 30m on a install base of 100m - sales can indeed scale proportionally to the userbase.

Why do you think I'm ignoring the fact that MK is a recognised franchise?  It's a recognizable franchise that consistently has an attach rate of 30%.  That's impressive.  I'm just not sure why any gamer would want to poo poo on the success of a good game....

Both games have done quite well and they both deserve to be recognized for their success.  Ignoring install base and only referring to total sales creates a disingenuous discussion at best.  It's defintiely 'spinning'.
