Gucamelee is great... though somehow I didn't love it like I do with many other metroidvainias. I can't put my finger on why. All the ingredients are there for a truly great metroidvainia and it's well worth getting. It's a good game.
Steamworld dig is fantastic but ends just as you're completely hooked.
Out of the 3d classics I really loved Shinobi 3. Id never played a Shinobi game before and really I loved it. It's the kind of retro game that you don't normally see captured by games made by retro obsessed indie devs (Their idea of retro inspiration can often seems limited to the likes of mario, megaman, castlevainia and metroid).
VVVVVV is one of my favourite indie platformers. Simple and brilliant... but short. The 3ds version is great and has some bonus levels made by various devs.
Trine 2 is very good and the wii u version works well with the gamepad, to my mind making it the best version, (I also have Trine 2 the complete story on pc).
Stick it to the man is brilliant. One of my favourite adventure games. I loved all the old lucasarts adventure games and this platforming adventure game really captures the magic whilst also fixing some of the tedium of those games. The platforming elements feels fresh and different and doest overstay it's welcome. The plot, characters and humour are also great. Overall a much better platforming adventure game than The Cave.
I enjoyed Attack of the Friday Monsters on 3ds but is more of an interactive story than a rpg or adventure game. It only took a couple of hours to play through it, so not great value in those terms, but I liked I and felt very satisfied by the end.
Castlestorm is a good game. It's not one of my favorite eshop games but it's adictive and probably soaked up more play time than any other eshop only game so is well worth getting.
I out of the others I'd say. Scram kitty, Toki toki 2, Armillo, bitrip runner 2 and Nano assault neo, on the wii U, and Steeldriver sub wars, Rage of the gladiator, Mighty switch force, on the 3ds , are all good games I have no regrets buying.
