Perhaps the N64 where they owned the competitive shooter crowd on consoles with games like Goldeneye & Perfect Dark? Or the Gamecube where they secured Resident Evil exclusivity, greenlit Eternal Darkness, published Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and localized Tales of Symphonia? Or on Wii where they secured Monster Hunter Tri as an exclusive? Or maybe the Wii U when they funded games like Bayonetta 2 & Devil's Third which would have been scrapped otherwise?

Also during those times created hardcore games like Smash Bros, Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding, Pikmin, Fire Emblem, Geist, Advance/Battalion Wars, Metroid Prime, Wonderful 101, etc.

Oki and ?

N64 was a hell of a system that Ninty them selves crippled by greed and arrogance.  N64 with Cd and pro 3rd party mentality would have been PS2 just a gen earlier.  N64 failure had nothing to do with focus on core or hardcore.

u asked when has Nintendo focused on the hardcore, i responed with a list of things they have done over the last 20 or so years that focuses on hardcore gamers?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
