Well, I think no. Launching first is one of the biggest advantages a console can have and helped Genesis and X360 to gain a lot of marketshare compared to its predecessors and really helped the NES to retain share.

The big issues with the Wii U are:
- Power. The core market comes from PS360. This guys won't expend a lot of money in a new console if they don't see improvements compared to what they have.

- Lack of innovation. The Wii was able to overcome the above problem because it changed the way people played, so it gave players a reason to upgrade from XB/PS2/GC. The Wii U has zero innovation. The tablet controller don't add anything really amazing. It allows cool things, but it doesn't change the game. Think about how smartphones allowed you to pull with your fingers the birds on Angry Birds or how you can use the rear touchpad on Vita to put your fingers inside the game on Tearaway. These are cool things, but they don't change the game like Wii did when it made you become the controller.
In reality, PS4 and X1 are more innovative because they allow you to share videos, screens, stream things live and are actually one of the first devices that make it so easy. That's a game changer because that's bringing the consoles on par with the internet of the 2010s where sharing and socializing is a key aspect.

- Lack of 3rd party games. This is simple, the biggest franchises are 3rd party and people want it.

So, from my point of view, the Wii U concept is wrong in its core. Fixing it would mean actually creating a complete different console.
