Your analogy is poor. If you want to go with cars, then PS3 and 360 would be like Porsche and Jaguar: powerful, sleek, expensive, high upkeep costs, you hear a lot about them, yet nobody ever seems to own one outside of the "inner circle" of the car-owning elite. Meanwhile Wii would be more like a Camry: compact, efficient, not especially powerful, but everybody and their grandma seems to have one because it does the job and has a low upkeep cost.

Stop looking at consoles from the elitist gamer perspective, and look at things from the mainstream gamer perspective instead. People, by and large, don't want excessive power; they want to get the most value for their money. And when shopping for a video game system, the experience of playing games on the system is the highest value point. From that perspective, the PS3 and 360 have very little to offer over the PS2 and XBOX, while the Wii has a lot to offer. It doesn't matter if you personally dislike the system; you are not the majority, nor do you necessarily reflect them.

So to use your analogy, Porsche and Jaguar should just close down because they don't cater to the masses?

No. They have a market, and for the market they have, they need to cater to them.

The Wii is so successful because it caters to so many different types of people. The PS3 and 360 cater to a smaller audience, but for what the PS3 and 360 do well, the Wii is not the right tool.

The Wii is great, I love mine, but I also love my PS3 and my 360.

Nowhere does he say Sony or MS should shut down. But by going elite (or in MS's case, always being that way), they've lost thier ability to cater to the mainstream. PS2 was the Camry of the 6th gen. Sony forgot this and they're stuck with being the Porshe. Whch is a nice thing to be, but as Sky Render said, a whole lot fewer people want a Porshe than a Camry.

My consoles and the fates they suffered:

Atari 7800 (Sold), Intellivision (Thrown out), Gameboy (Lost), Super Nintendo (Stolen), Super Nintendo (2nd copy) (Thrown out by mother), Nintendo 64 (Still own), Super Nintendo (3rd copy) (Still own), Wii (Sold)
