As a total noob on basketball, isn't this saying he thinks his team of the last 4 years isnt good enough?

sounds like someone wants to be carried

Yes. He's talking about how he wants to put his city over basketball, but there's absolutely no way he would have gone to Cleveland if they didn't have Kyrie Irving and on the verge of getting Kevin Love. He's just switching to whichever team will get him a championship, instead of staying put and building his own legacy.

This just in: good basketball players want to play with other good basketball players to give them the best chance to win. By the way, if he signs for max money, they wouldn't be able to sign Kevin Love, who will no doubt want to get paid as well. The Cavs just signed Irving to a 90$ million contract.

Yea, but there's a difference between joining the best in order to win rings, and building up the best to win rings. What did Jordan say? "I wanted to beat the best, not join them" and "There's no way that in hindsight now, I would have ever called up Larry, called up Magic, and said "hey, let's get together and play on one team." And before anyone says Jordan had Pippen and Rodman, Pippen was a draft pick and Rodman was 35 when he traded to the Bulls.

Anyway, of course players want to play with players that give them a chance to win. But it says more to your legacy (and your character) if you build a team to win, instead of making an All-Star team as your only means of winning. Otherwise, why don't Chris Paul, Kobe, LeBron, Blake Griffin, and Dwight Howard take some paycuts, come together, make a super team, and win 6 championships in a row? No way anyone looks at that kind of team with any kind of ire.

You'll win championships that way, but you won't win respect. Not that these guys that are on top of the world favor our respect more than the paycheck, the fame, and the winning seasons, but I know I wouldn't want everyone looking at my career with an asteriks mark next to it
