In what order should I play the Metal Gear games?

I'm curious. Why play them in the order they came out? I'm not saying it's wrong, but I'm curious why would that be the best way to play.

Another big reason, controls. If you jump from say 3 to 2, half the stuff is missing like crouching and crappy gun mode. It made me hate Raiden more. Since I played the games first time in Chronological order.
