Nintendo's Problem -- There Simply Isn't Room For 3 Consoles

There is nothing magical, but Nintendo developers have first hand input on console design and specs. They would have no respect on other platforms and as my link explains that's short term success not long term. Every IP would end up dying as a result and Nintendo would still vault their IPs. 

They would be able to take advantage of more powerful hardware, their input obviously isn't worth much to Nintendo at this point. What respect do they need on other platforms? Their games would sell that's all the respect they need.
