This line of reasoning has always irked me. Consoles don't sell without games, so delaying games while waiting for the install base to increase certainly won't do anybody any good. I also can't see publishers sitting on a project far along in development (thus burning cash) just to wait for the install base of the platform to increase, especially when the game in this particular situation is the key title expected to start pushing systems (in Japane especially). |
Well as we all know, the great bulk of a video games sales comes from the initial what? 6-8weeks? The more consoles that are out at the release time will give them a better shot at making more money during that time frame. It's no surprise that Square has put quite a heft chunk of money and resources into FF13, so perhaps they just want to maximize what could be slim profits?
Just a shot in the dark...
By life end:
- Wii- 100 million+
- Xbox360- 35~40 million
- PS3- 30 million
- PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
- NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical) - FAILURE
- NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!
