The context in this regard is by comparing one product directly to a different product competing in the same space. eg. PS4 sold 50% more than wiiU (100k+ to 50k+). In this case, even if the PS4 sold say 10k but sold 50% more than the wiiU.... that literally provides all the context you need.

Even when you are trying to correct someone you are wrong...

The correct way to phrase that would be to say that the wii u sales were 50% of the PS4 sales. PS4 selling 50% more than the wii u's sales would be 75k considering 50% of 50k is 25k. 

Eevn though he "technically" said it wrong I am sure everyone knew what he meant. And the context in which he used the context in which he used the percentages was correct as well so the comment by Pav was wrong either way.
