Zax was ban dodging. He got banned and instantly created an alt to continue what was going on. This is why his account got an extension. Selnor is another example of someone who used an alt to try ban dodge.

In certain cases some people may make an account while they are banned to discuss it with the mod in question, which is why the original accounts may not have a ban extension, while the alt does end up with a perma.

Ok, this makes perfect sense. I just don't get how making a second account for any other reason, such as to keep posting on forums (even without breaking the rules) or a second account just cause you can, would not affect the main account. In the first case, you're banned to be taught a lesson. If you keep posting, nothing changes. In the second case it's harmless, but still a waste of time for the mods who have to look up ip addresses. Then again, if you don't mind it, why would I?
