I might not say "open world" in the way that we usually mean it (everything's open, sandbox, that sort of thing), but I really REALLY want a big world that we can explore. I would just be happy with a return to 64/Sunshine style, because I really hate A to B linearity, but as long as I'm dreaming I want a grand adventure. Sort of like Paper Mario, but fully 3D and with tons of awesome platforming and new abilities to get to new areas and characters and everything. Super Mario Adventure. I want it bad.
Never going to happen though. Nintendo has pretty much proven they're only interested in stripping everything down to its core. Mario just isn't about exploration anymore. It's about linear, A to B levels. Simple, shallow fun. But hey, a lot of people seem to like that, so maybe it's not a bad thing overall. I'm kind of coming to terms with this fact.
