Add in mini-games, NSMB style. Gimme me whack-a-mole, damnit!
The only thing I could think of, in terms of gameplay, is to remove the life system.
Perhaps adding an online multiplayer mode. Not deathmatch, or anything crap. But specialised levels where the players will need to work as a team to work out and get thorugh certain puzzles. That would be fun.
