In other words Aonuma suggest that in Zelda U you could go to any direction but at some point you cannot progress without the requested abilities and experience. Therefore, you need to explore other parts of the world in order to gain experience and new abilities to explore even further.

Good news. I'm all for open world exploration, but it shouldn't be 100% open from the beginning. Unlocking and getting to certain parts of the world after acquiring items is exciting.

I believe it will be something like the NES Zelda. You need to explore in order to gain more life energy, a better defensive tunic and money to buy other items like the blue candle and bombs. There are also some dungeons taht requieres certain items like level 4 or 5 (don't remember) that you need the raft and the 7 one with the flaute.
