Never thought of the USA as hispanic, I've always thought of them as being closer to English/European. But maybe that's just my European bias showing

Speaking Spanish is pretty European as well, no? I would consider Argentina and Uruguay very, very European. The other hispanic nations have more native influences, that's the only thing not making them European.
