I am slightly lost as to what you are talking about so my apologies if I go the wrong way (never played those games). Battalion wars is a real-time strategy game (as far as I know) so I think your point might be lost on that one. The reason the term was coined is because the genre needed a much deeper level of strategy in order to succeed. It was much closer to chess than your typical RPG so it was given the title srpg to attract the proper audience. The grid itself is not essential to the process, but mostly a relic of the past now. Phantom Brave had no grid and is still under the srpg banner.
