The difference between nazism and the inquisition for example, is that instead of trying to convince people to burn heretics, jews and saracens because of twisted fairytale versions of the Bible, it was the secular rationalization of atheism that pushed them to industrialize the killing of any resistant, jews, muslims and others...
Will it ever happen again? Well if you know the theory/litterature about a "Brave New World" or "New World Order", a kind of globalized western secular regime that glorifies money, information, entertainment and technology instead of humanism, evolution, spirituality and differences, then yes, it's possible, if the western countries win a WWIII after their complete collapse (which is currently and slowly undergoing), but very very unlikely since History are cycles and the tides will probably turn against the west.
