I'm going out on a limb and say that the Amiibos are going to be a game changer. Wii U sales up, eventually software sales up, drones and drones of these figurines like yu-gi-oh cards being picked up monthly.
I don't think this is a bold statement at all, for the most part, we are already seeing something to the likes of Amiibo and i'm not talking Skylander or Disney Infinity. I'm talking about Pokemon. The mantra behind pokemon: Gotta catch 'em all, Be the very best, the things that fuel the demand for these collectables. Im going out there and saying that Amiibos are the next big Nintendo phenomenon i.e. Super mario bros, Pokemon. Everyone and their mothers are going to be talking about Amiibos. It has that weird and funky name you don't associate with anything, but when you see them in person they have the ability to immediately catch on.
Unlike the skylanders or disney infinity, Amiibos serve a broader experience than the previous mentioned. They have a launch pad that the other two don't games could not lift off from. Being a Nintendo product, we could see Amiibos utilized like Miis have been utilized. A lot of recent Nintendo games are pushing Miis on us to either effective or non-effective gameplay. Personally, MK8 and Smash bros are the best uses for Miis. With that said, it's not out of the question to have Amiibos be utilized very well to further invigorate gameplay experiences in other games. And unlike the other two, Amiibo are for a more general audience than a skylander which is mostly aimed at kids. It would be a harder sell for a grown man to sleep next to a skylander figurine, while a mario Amiibo would be right next to a fanboy everywhere he goes.
Amiibo learn and level up. The fundamental way you play a multilayer game with computers could radically change. If Nintendo can get it right and Amiibos can learn from previous gameplays, we could see different levels of gameplay from start of a game to 40 hours later. Not to mention being able to pit our amiibos against one another. Players are going to strive and play smash more just to see their amiibos beat their friend's amiibos. People have been hankering about next gen gameplay, Amiibos are it.
Or i could just be completely wrong and Wii U sales are still humdrum post amiibos.
