I doubt many that don't already own the console would be enticed enough to buy a Wii U for these. After all the Skylanders and Disney Infinity have a lot more content and uses than the amiibos will.
So far from what they've said about the amiibos, they are not must haves for the games they are compatiable so only hardcore fans will be interested in purchasing them. And since they will probably go for $10 a pop, I doubt Skylanders has anything to worry about. In the end, Nintendo will make some money off these, but for anyone that likes the toys and games model already, it's doubtful they will spend $300 on the console, $60 for the game, and start buying up a bunch of these since it would go well over 400 just to get a basic set. I think people that like Skylanders and Infinity, will just stick with those because they are still supported and there are additional games and accessories coming out soon.
