Some think the game should end right there. The game is a masterpiece and it doesn't need a sequel. That said, Sony would be foolish to turn away all that free money. I think it would be Ellie centered, perhaps as an adult.

P.S. - Just wanna say that I never liked the rationale at the end. It's like destroying the cure for cancer because you can't sacrifice one person.........that isn't your daughter......which the person volunteered for in the first place. Sorry guess I'm a "greater good" kind of guy. If it was my kid then that's a moral issue but he let his personal demons get in the way of the world getting better............and killed a lot of people with the best of intentions.

While intentions for the greater good are great and all, I don't trust the fire flies. They were a sort of terrorist group (they created some explosives early in the game at the boston QZ) and their numbers were going down fast. They were also in direct conflict with the military, so even if they got the cure, i'm pretty damn sure they were not going to hand it over willy nilly. I think they would use it as a way to gain more power, a power grab I guess. Distribution is also a very difficult problem, it could take years for them to distribute it to EVERYBODY. Also, after 20 years of raping, pillaging and murder, a lot of people (mainly the hunters) simply will not turn around over night. It's all they knew how to do to survive, Joel knew that since he was hunter and he did some horrible things as well.

I think the story is richer and better by showing Joel inability to sacrifice that one person, who isn't even related, but that it gave him a chance of redemption, to try and give her the life that he was not able to give to Sarah. In his mind, the world was not worth saving and there was still hope (Tommy's camp was making it happen with electricity and such)
