The translation is animation, the actual english word from which it comes from. And that word doesn't convey any kind of drawing style, unlike the word cartoon. Misused by many to mean everything that is animated. That's playing with semantics, but you seem to want to keep this going.

Because words can't possibly have multiple or different meanings. 

The etymology of anime is animation. That doesn't mean the word can't have a different or other meaning. After all, many words have vastly different meanings than their etymology. Cartoons are animation as well you now. 

I really hope you never have to write a master thesis if you're that quick to pass judgement on the definition of words/concepts.
